South asain football cup.
Sri Lanka and Maldives will host the eighth South Asian Football Federation Cup from Dec 3-14 at the Sugathadasa Stadium and in Maldives.
The SAFF Championship is considered as the ‘World Cup for South Asian nations’ throughout the region. Co-host Maldives, subcontinent rivals - Pakistan, India and Nepal are placed in Group A. Bangladesh, who beat Maldives on penalties five years ago to lift the prestigious regional trophy for the first time, will be vying for top spot in Group B, which also includes 1995 champion and co-host Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan.
The group matches that involve Maldives will be played in the National Stadium, Male and group matches involving Sri Lanka will be played at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. The final too will be played in Colombo (Dec 14).
Matches will take place at 5.00 pm and at 7.30 pm.
WSG of Singapore, the sponsors of Asian Soccer since 1992, has come forward as the sponsor for the championship. The sponsors have agreed to offer prize money to the value of 95,000 US dollar for the tournament which includes $50,000 for the winner, $25,000 for the runner-up and the loosing two semi finalists get $10,000.

Previous names have included the South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation Gold Cup in 1993 and South Asian Gold Cup 95 in 1995.
The countries that competed in one or more tournaments are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It is held every two years.

The ECO Cup is a football competition for members of Economic Cooperation Organisation. Previously it was known as RCD Cup, RCD abbreviates Regional Corporation for Development and was an economic cooperation between Iran, Pakistan and Turkey from 1964 to 1979. A new organisation, ECO, was set up in 1985. In 1992, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan joined ECO.The countries that competed in one or more tournaments are Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Afghanistan and Uzbekistan never participated. Also Turkey did not participate in 1993 Tournament. 1993 was the last time this tournament was held.

Former Pakistan Capitan "Muhammad essa
KARACHI: Former Pakistan football team captain Mohammad Essa, while reacting to a news item, has clarified that he has not been “dropped” from the Asian Games probables but has himself refused to play in the event due to his other obligations.
Speaking to Dawn on Wednesday, Pakistan’s highest goal scorer to date said that there was no question of exclusion or being dropped from the shortlist when he never even reported to the camp set up at the Punjab Stadium in preparation for the Asian Games, to be held from November12 to 27 in Guangzhou, China.
“I had been invited, not just once but three times, to attend the camp by the Pakistan Football Federation [PFF] but I politely turned down the offer,” Essa explained.
Essa, who was one of the 28 attendees of Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) License ‘C’ football coaching course held in Iran in May, also happens to be one of the five selected from that lot for the elite panel that is to attend a refresher course in Malaysia in November.
“I will be heading to Malaysia on November 1 to attend the refresher course and therefore won’t be able to represent Pakistan in the Asian Games that’s going to take place about the same time,” he concluded.
