Sri Lanka and Maldives will host the eighth South Asian Football Federation Cup from Dec 3-14 at the Sugathadasa Stadium and in Maldives.
The SAFF Championship is considered as the ‘World Cup for South Asian nations’ throughout the region. Co-host Maldives, subcontinent rivals - Pakistan, India and Nepal are placed in Group A. Bangladesh, who beat Maldives on penalties five years ago to lift the prestigious regional trophy for the first time, will be vying for top spot in Group B, which also includes 1995 champion and co-host Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan.
The group matches that involve Maldives will be played in the National Stadium, Male and group matches involving Sri Lanka will be played at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. The final too will be played in Colombo (Dec 14).
Matches will take place at 5.00 pm and at 7.30 pm.
WSG of Singapore, the sponsors of Asian Soccer since 1992, has come forward as the sponsor for the championship. The sponsors have agreed to offer prize money to the value of 95,000 US dollar for the tournament which includes $50,000 for the winner, $25,000 for the runner-up and the loosing two semi finalists get $10,000.
The SAFF championship also called the SAFF Cup (previously South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup), is a football competition of mainly South Asian countries and territories. Previous names have included the South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation Gold Cup in 1993 and South Asian Gold Cup 95 in 1995.
The countries that competed in one or more tournaments are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It is held every two years.

3rd Dec - Nepal vs India and Maldives vs Pakistan
4th Dec - Bangladesh vs Butan and Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan
5th Dec - Pakistan vs India and Maldives vs Nepal
6th Dec - Afghanistan vs Bangladesh and Sri Lanka vs Bhutan
7th Dec - Pakistan vs Nepal and Maldives vs India
8th Dec - Afghanistan vs Bhutan and Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh
11th Dec - Semi-finals at Male and Colombo 7.30 p.m.
14th Dec - Final at Colombo 7.30 p.m.
Note: If either the Maldives or Sri Lanka (or both) finish runners up in their respective Groups, they will play at home in the Semi-Finals.
If one of the host countries finishes first in their Group and the other finishes runner-up bringing about a semi-final match, then the team winning the Group will play at home.
